The Nissan Patrol, also marketed as the Nissan Safari in certain regions, is a legendary 4x4 known worldwide for its durability and off-road capability. Models produced between 1997 and 2000 and powered by the RD28T or RD28TI Y61 diesel engines are particularly appreciated for their robust six-cylinder design and long service life.
This 2.8-liter turbocharged inline-six diesel engine delivers strong low-end torque, making it perfectly suited for demanding environments, towing and off-road use. At the heart of this powertrain lies the Garrett GT1752S turbocharger, which plays a key role in engine performance, responsiveness and efficiency. Over time, thermal stress, mileage and operating conditions can lead to wear and reduced turbo efficiency.

Complete restoration of the GT1752S turbocharger by BG Turbo
BG Turbo offers full restoration services for the Garrett GT1752S turbocharger fitted to Nissan Patrol and Safari RD28T engines. Each turbocharger is completely disassembled to allow thorough inspection of all components. Wear parts are replaced, reusable components are cleaned and measured, and all tolerances are verified according to manufacturer specifications.
The restoration process includes inspection or replacement of the CHRA, water-cooled bearing housing, turbine and compressor wheels, back plate, heat shield, gaskets and repair kit. The rotating assembly is precisely balanced to ensure reliability, smooth operation and long service life. Wastegate settings are adjusted either to original factory specifications or adapted to the selected performance configuration.

GT1752S turbo hybrid upgrade – BG Turbo expertise
In addition to standard restoration, BG Turbo offers hybrid turbo upgrades for the GT1752S. All hybrid work is performed in-house. BG Turbo machines compressor housings directly and carries out the complete turbo preparation process. We maintain stock of MFS Performance forged compressor wheels, known for their superior strength and airflow efficiency compared to standard cast wheels.
STAGE 1
MFS Performance forged wheel with the same diameter as the original wheel + high-speed balancing.
This stage provides a 7 to 12% increase in low-end torque and power while maintaining near-original turbo behavior and excellent reliability.
STAGE 2
Larger MFS Performance forged wheel + CNC machining of the compressor housing + high-speed balancing.
This stage delivers a 15 to 20% increase in low-end torque and power, significantly improving throttle response and drivability while remaining suitable for controlled road and off-road use.
Each hybrid turbo project is carefully tailored to the vehicle’s actual use and customer expectations.
